Data Table Foot
A data table foot is the footer section of a data table, wrapping one or more rows that provide summary information such as totals, averages, or other aggregate data. It is designed to be used inside a DataTable <table> structure.
The component renders a <tfoot> element and passes through its children, which are expected to be DataTableRow or <tr> elements.
Implementation Notes
- Renders as a
<tfoot>element for the footer section of a data table - Children should be one or more rows providing summary or aggregate information
- Designed to be used inside a DataTable
<table>structure - Spreads
restPropsonto the<tfoot>element for consumer customization - No internal state -- purely a structural wrapper
Props
children: slot (required) -- footer rows with summary or aggregate content...restProps: Any additional HTML attributes passed to the<tfoot>element
Usage
<DataTable caption="Quarterly sales">
<DataTableHead>...</DataTableHead>
<DataTableBody>...</DataTableBody>
<DataTableFoot>
<tr><th scope="row">Total</th><td>$42,000</td></tr>
</DataTableFoot>
</DataTable>
Keyboard Interactions
None -- this component is a passive container. Navigation within the table follows standard browser behavior.
ARIA
- Implicit
rowgrouprole from the<tfoot>element -- groups the footer rows of the table
When to Use
- Use inside DataTable to provide the
<tfoot>footer section with summary or aggregate rows. - Use to display totals, averages, or aggregate data at the bottom of a DataTable.
- Use when the table needs a persistent footer visible during scrolling in fixed-header layouts.
When Not to Use
- Do not use outside DataTable -- use TableFoot, CalendarTableFoot, GanttTableTfoot, or KanbanTableFoot for their respective table types.
- Do not use when there is no summary or aggregate data to display -- not every table needs a footer.
Headless
This headless DataTableFoot component provides a semantic <tfoot> element with implicit rowgroup role for assistive technology. The consumer provides all visual styling including background color to distinguish the footer from body rows, bold text for totals, and borders.
Styles
The consumer provides all CSS styling. The component renders with a .data-table-foot class for targeting. No default styles are included — this is a fully headless component.
Testing
- Verify the component renders a
<tfoot>element with classdata-table-foot - Verify pass-through attributes are applied
Advice
- Designers: Visually distinguish footer rows from body rows using a different background color or bold text to indicate summary data.
- Developers: Place DataTableRow or
<tr>elements as children with<th scope="row">for row labels and<td>for aggregate values.
Composition
DataTableFoot is part of the DataTable composition pattern. It sits inside a DataTable alongside DataTableHead and DataTableBody, and contains DataTableRow components. The full hierarchy is DataTable > DataTableHead/DataTableBody/DataTableFoot > DataTableRow > DataTableTD.
